Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take on Gujarat Titans in the TATA IPL 2026 Final in Ahmedabad, with both teams aiming to secure their second IPL title. Ahead of the highly anticipated clash, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes RCB enter the final as favourites despite GT enjoying home advantage.
Speaking on JioHotstar’s Game Plan, Ashwin highlighted Gujarat Titans’ strong record in Ahmedabad but felt Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s aggressive approach throughout the season gives them the edge.

According to Ashwin, Gujarat Titans’ familiarity with home conditions remains the biggest factor working in their favour. However, he believes RCB’s fearless brand of cricket, combined with the experience of players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya, makes them the team to beat in the final.
Virat Kohli vs Kagiso Rabada
Ashwin also discussed the battle between Virat Kohli and Kagiso Rabada. He noted that Kohli has adapted well to Gujarat Titans’ plans against him and has shown confidence in handling Rabada’s pace and variations.
The former India spinner pointed out that GT have often targeted Kohli with wide deliveries outside off stump, but the RCB star has found ways to counter the strategy effectively.
Rajat Patidar’s Impact Against Spin
Ashwin reserved special praise for RCB captain Rajat Patidar, describing him as one of the most dangerous spin-hitters in the tournament.
He explained that Patidar’s ability to use his feet and attack spinners from different angles makes him a difficult batter to contain. Ashwin even suggested that Gujarat Titans may prefer using their pace attack against Patidar rather than relying heavily on spin options.
Sanjay Bangar Suggests Tactical Change for GT
Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar proposed an interesting tactical option for Gujarat Titans. He suggested GT could consider altering their overseas player combination depending on match situations, giving them additional batting depth during a run chase.
Bangar also identified Sai Kishore as a bowler capable of troubling Patidar with his control and variations.
Gill vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar Battle
Another key contest in the final will be Shubman Gill against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Bangar advised Gill to play from the crease and respect Bhuvneshwar’s ability to generate movement off the surface.
He also praised Gill’s recent performances, calling one of his innings this season among the finest he has seen in recent years.
