With March in full swing, the scorching summer sun is making its presence felt across India. As the temperatures rise, nothing beats the heat better than a refreshing homemade summer drink. &TV artists, including Smita Sable (Dhaniya, Bheema), Geetanjali Mishra (Rajesh, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan), and Vidisha Srivastava (Anita Bhabhi, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai), share their favourite traditional summer coolers from their hometowns that help them stay refreshed and energized.
Smita Sable, aka Dhaniya from Bheema, hailing from Maharashtra, shares, “Solkadhi is my go-to summer drink. It is made from kokum and coconut milk and is a staple in Maharashtrian and Konkani households. It not only cools the body but also aids digestion, making it the perfect summer refresher. I also love Aam Panna, a tangy and sweet raw mango drink that keeps me energized and hydrated during the scorching heat.”
Geetanjali Mishra, who plays Rajesh in Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “Coming from Uttar Pradesh, my favourite summer drink is Bael Sharbat. Made from wood apple pulp, this traditional cooler is packed with nutrients, helps with digestion, and keeps the body cool. Another drink I love is Sattu Sharbat, made from roasted gram flour, black salt, and lemon. It is an instant energy booster and keeps me refreshed throughout the day.”
Vidisha Srivastava, aka Anita Bhabhi from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, hailing from Varanasi, shares, “Thandai is a must-have in our home during summer. It is made from a blend of milk, nuts, saffron, and aromatic spices, providing both cooling and rejuvenation. I also enjoy drinking Jaljeera, a tangy and spicy cumin-infused drink that aids digestion and instantly refreshes the body. These drinks are not just delicious but also deeply rooted in our culture and traditions.”
