Former India captain and football legend Bhaichung Bhutia believes Morocco have the quality to continue their impressive FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign when they take on Scotland in a crucial Group C encounter.
Ahead of the Scotland vs Morocco clash, Bhutia shared his assessment of both teams, highlighting Morocco’s impressive performance against Brazil and identifying the key tactical battle that could decide the contest.

Morocco Impressed Against Brazil
Reflecting on Morocco’s opening match against five-time FIFA World Cup champions Brazil, Bhutia felt the African side were unfortunate not to secure all three points.
“I think Morocco definitely made a stronger statement. They were unlucky not to get three points. They were much better than Brazil and completely outplayed them. The way they dominated the midfield area against Brazil was something really impressive to watch,” said Bhutia.

Morocco earned a valuable draw against Brazil and produced one of the standout performances of the opening round, showcasing their technical quality, tactical discipline and attacking intent.
Scotland’s Win Could Prove Crucial
While praising Morocco’s display, Bhutia also acknowledged the importance of Scotland’s opening victory against Haiti.
According to the former Indian captain, Scotland’s ability to secure maximum points from their first match could become a significant factor in the race for qualification from Group C.
“For Scotland, getting three points against Haiti is a huge step forward because Haiti are considered the weakest side in the group. Those points could prove very important going ahead,” he explained.
Scotland currently sit at the top of Group C and will be aiming to strengthen their position with another positive result.
Tactical Battle to Watch
Bhutia expects an intriguing contrast of styles when the two teams meet.
Scotland are likely to rely on their physical approach, aerial strength and organised defensive structure, while Morocco will attempt to control possession and use their pace in attacking areas.
“Scotland will be well organised, look to keep things tight and can also be very direct. They will try to use their physicality, crosses and aerial ability. Morocco, on the other hand, plays a South American style of football with possession, quick passing and the ability to break through teams with their pace and tactical quality,” he said.
Brahim Diaz Identified as Key Player
When asked to identify a player who could make the difference, Bhutia pointed to Morocco’s attacking partnership on the right flank.
The former India skipper believes the combination of Achraf Hakimi and Brahim Diaz could be decisive against Scotland’s defence.
“Morocco are very dangerous from the right-hand side, where Achraf Hakimi can combine well with Brahim Diaz. Ismael Saibari has also made an impact, but for me, Brahim Diaz is going to play a major role in this match.”
With qualification points at stake and Group C beginning to take shape, football fans can expect a highly competitive contest between two teams that made positive starts to their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaigns.
