” As a mother, this was one of the toughest scenes I’ve had to perform,” Madhuri Character Played by Utkarsha Naik
Itti Si Khushi Actress Utkarsha Naik Talks about a Scene from Itti Si Khushi
Sony SAB’s Itti Si Khushi tells the heartfelt story of Anvita’s (Sumbul Touqeer Khan) journey as she navigates life’s challenges with strength, dignity and an unwavering commitment to her siblings. In the ongoing track, the story takes a gripping turn as the custody battle intensifies. Sanjay (Rishi Saxena) attempts to manipulate the situation in his favour by staging a health scare to gain sympathy. However, his mother Madhuri (Utkarsha Naik) begins to see through his actions. This leads to a deeply emotional confrontation, where she is forced to confront a painful truth about her own son and ultimately take a stand for what is right.

For Utkarsha Naik, portraying Madhuri in this pivotal moment has been one of the most emotionally demanding experiences of the show. Playing a mother caught between unconditional love and harsh reality required her to tap into deeply personal emotions. She shares that the scene stayed with her even after the shoot, as it mirrors a fear that any parent would find difficult to process. Being a mother herself, she found it especially challenging to detach from the emotions, making the performance both intense and deeply personal.
Speaking about the experience, Utkarsha shared, “As a mother, this was one of the toughest scenes I’ve had to perform. There is a certain instinct that always wants to protect your child, no matter what and to go against that instinct even in a fictional space is extremely difficult. While we were shooting this sequence, I remember feeling a knot in my stomach because it did not feel like just another scene. I kept thinking about how no parent ever wants to see or accept such a reality about their child. Being a mother myself, it became even more personal for me. There was a constant internal conflict between the character’s strength and a mother’s helplessness. That is when I realised how emotionally heavy it was, because Madhuri is not just angry, she is also coming to terms with the fact that her son is wrong. It stayed with me long after the shoot ended.”
