Sony SAB’s Yaadein has been winning hearts through Dr. Dev Mehta’s (Iqbal Khan) deeply moving journey of redemption, resilience and rediscovery as he loses 8 years of his memory. While the show captures nuanced relationships on screen, it’s the candid and unexpected behind-the-scenes interactions that bring an added layer of warmth to the experience.
Actor Iqbal Khan recently shared a charming glimpse into his off-screen world, one that blends seamlessly with his real life. Interestingly, his on-screen daughter Gia Mehta (Harleen Rupani) is around the same age as his real-life daughter, making their bond feel natural and effortless both in front of and behind the camera. During shoot breaks, what began as casual conversations soon turned into fun exchanges, with his young co-star introducing him to the ever-evolving world of Gen Z slang. From picking up quirky phrases to understanding the tone and context behind them, Iqbal found himself unintentionally becoming a student of this new-age vocabulary.

Speaking about this, Iqbal Khan shared, “It’s been such a fun and unexpected part of shooting for Yaadein. My on-screen daughter is almost the same age as my real daughter, so there’s an instant comfort and camaraderie we share. During our breaks, she often introduces me to all these Gen Z phrases and slang, and I genuinely enjoy learning them. What’s even more amusing is when I go back home with this ‘new knowledge’ and casually use these phrases with my daughter, she’s completely taken aback, wondering how I suddenly know all this! It leads to some really funny and sweet moments between us. I think it’s a lovely way of bridging that generational gap, even if it’s just through language.”
Tune in to watch Yaadein, every Monday to Saturday at 8:00 PM, only on Sony SAB
