Sony SAB’s Itti Si Khushi showcases the heartfelt journey of Anvita (Sumbul Touqeer Khan), a young woman who has taken on the role of a parent to her siblings while navigating the complexities of love, responsibility and family. As the story progresses, the emotional dynamics between Anvita and her ex-husband Sanjay (Rishi Saxena) are becoming increasingly layered, bringing forth moments that are both intense and deeply moving.
In the upcoming episodes, viewers will witness Sanjay grappling with his emotions, insecurities and the consequences of his choices. A character driven by strong motives yet often taking questionable paths, Sanjay represents the complexity of a person who believes he is justified in his actions even when the outcomes hurt those around him. Portraying this layered personality required Rishi Saxena to approach the role with honesty, focusing on the internal conflict that defines Sanjay’s journey.
The actor also drew inspiration from some of Indian cinema’s most memorable grey characters, particularly Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic Vijay from Deewaar, whose emotional depth and moral ambiguity continue to resonate with audiences even today.
Opening up about the inspiration behind his performance, Rishi Saxena shared, “When Sanjay’s arc started unfolding, my biggest focus was to portray him with complete honesty. What makes Sanjay interesting is that his motive is clear and, in his mind, justified, even though the means he chooses may not always be right. To play him truthfully, I had to develop empathy for the character, even when his actions could be questionable. While approaching the character, I thought about iconic grey characters like Amitabh Bachchan’s Vijay in Deewaar, who may not always walk the right path but still resonate deeply with the audience. Ultimately, my focus was on approaching Sanjay with honesty and conviction, because when the approach is right, the character naturally connects with the audience.”.
