Pennum Porattum is Rajesh Madhavan’s directorial debut. The film, which premiered at IFFI, received a standing ovation at IFFFKA as well. The film, which received good reviews from the audience and critics in its theatrical release, is one of the rare Malayalam films in recent times to sell its OTT rights before its theatrical release. Netflix had acquired the streaming rights of the film. Now, Pennum Porattum has started streaming on OTT. Along with Malayalam, the audience can watch it in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages through the platform.
The central character in the film is a dog named Suttu. It is also interesting that Tovino Thomas has given voice to this dog. The story of the film is a combination of fantasy and social satire. The other characters in the film are ordinary villagers, including agricultural laborers and youth. Another special feature of the film is that most of the characters, including in comedy and action, are played by new faces. Producer Santosh T. Kuruvilla, who introduced innovations in Malayalam cinema through films like Maheshinte Prathikaram, Android Kunjappan, and Nna Than Case Kodu, produced the film. STK Frames of Kuruvilla produced the film.
Rajesh Madhavan, who started as a casting director and later gained attention as an actor and hero, is now presenting ‘Pennum Porattum’ as a director, and his previous experiences and recognitions at film festivals have raised the audience’s expectations for the film. Before the IFFK, the film was also screened in the Gala Premiere section in Goa. The story, screenplay and dialogues of the film are written by Ravi Shankar, who is a co-writer of films like ‘Bheeshma Parvam‘ and ‘Rani Padmini’ directed by Amal Neerad and starring Mammootty in the lead. The film’s cinematography is handled by Sabin Uralikandi, and the editing is done by Chaman Chacko.
