As Dhanteras, the festival of wealth and prosperity, draws near, actors of Sun Neo’s show Jaya Bhattacharya, Lakshay Khurana, and Sahil Uppal share their thoughts on its significance and their personal celebrations.
Dhanteras Traditions of Sun Neo Channel Serial Actors
Jaya Bhattacharya, who plays Urmila in Sun Neo’s Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya said, “Dhanteras marks the beginning of lighting diyas across our country. I believe this symbolises bringing in warmth as the new season, winter, approaches, a time when warmth becomes essential. When I was a child, my mother bought something for Dhanteras, usually utensils, because it was part of the tradition.
But when I moved to Mumbai, I began the tradition of buying silver coins instead. Growing up, we didn’t have much to spend, so there was always pressure to buy something on Dhanteras. Today, I am filled with gratitude that I can afford to do what I wish. As the breadwinner, I make sure to set aside funds to honour these traditions in my own way.”
Lakshay Khurana
Who plays Aditya in Sun Neo’s Ishq Jabariya said, “Every year on Dhanteras, we make sure to purchase gold because it’s considered very auspicious. This year will be no different—we’ll definitely be buying gold since it’s become a cherished family tradition. Even though I am on set of our Sun Neo show Ishq Jabariya most of the time, I always try to light a diya and offer prayers for everyone’s well-being.”
Sahil Uppal
Who plays Gagan in Sun Neo’s Saajha Sindoor shared, “Dhanteras holds a very special place in our hearts, not just for its auspicious significance but also because it’s the day my wife was born. This year, there’s a chance that I will be shooting for our Sun Neo show Saajha Sindoor. However, the celebrations won’t be any different—we plan to continue our cherished tradition by bringing home a gold or silver item, along with some new cookware. It’s our way of honouring the festival’s significance while bringing in positive energy and abundance.
Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya
follows Vaishnavi (Brinda Dahal), an orphan who sees Chhathi Maiyya as her mother. Ishq Jabariya tells the story of Gulki (Siddhi Sharma) and her struggles to achieve her dreams.
