Udaya Comedy is the one and only satellite television channel in Karnataka which is dedicated to comedy. Launched on April 7, 2009, the channel is now celebrating its ninth anniversary. This channel aired comedy scenes and variety of comedy based programs as guided by television personalities known as “comedy jockeys” (CJs). At first, Udaya Comedy’s main target demographic was young adults, but today it is primarily kids, teenagers, particularly high school and college students homemakers and others too. Udaya Comedy has toned down its comedy programming significantly in recent years, and its programming now consists of comedy programs original reality, drama programming and some off-network syndicated programs along with comedy video programming in off-peak time periods.

In the past 9 years, Udaya Comedy has been very successful in attracting viewers in both urban as well as rural areas, but it has gained its popularity more in rural areas and has become the No.1 channel in rural sector. Their rating in 2015 was about 55 GRPs and had tremendous growth up to 120 GRPs in 2018. This is a great achievement by the channel in such a small period of time. Udaya Comedy has great programs like 30 minutes “Non-Stop Nagu,” “Top 10@9,” “Blockbuster Mid-Day Talkies,” “Nagalebeku,” “Sikkapatte Nakku Bidi,” “Kirik Gang,” “Selfie-Scene” and many more.

One among these successful programs in “Udaya Comedy” is Halli Habba, which is a rural based program. Karnataka is a land of many culture and heritage. The main purpose of this program is to telecast all different cultures of different places across Karnataka.
